Quelle che si voltano. Sull’apostrofe in Montale
Résumé
The aim of this paper is to re-examine a selection of Montale’s poems chosen among those collected in Ossi di seppia, Le Occasioni and La Bufera e altro in which apostrophes are given a significant function. The ambiguities for which this rhetorical device is responsible will allow us to reflect on the specificity of Montale's relationship with lyric tradition, but also to demonstrate that his verses cannot be traced back either to what Käte Hamburger calls “reality statements” or to the typically Modernist genre of the dramatic monologue.
