Science And Learning In The Middle Ages: Le Roman D’Alexandre En Prose
Résumé
The Roman d’Alexandre en prose manuscript (Stockholm Royal Library Vu 20) stands out in the Prose Alexander manuscript tradition for three reasons. It is the most intriguing manuscript because of its oriental origin, of the encyclopedic accretions it contains and of the drastic reduction of the iconographic programme. I show that these three particularities have to be understood in relation with one another and to establish that the images serve the remodeling of the text in order to offer a particular reading of the Roman d'Alexandre en prose.
